The wildest of all Smithsonian attractions, the National Zoo features a wide array of animals, including the famous giant pandas Tian Tian and Mei Xiang. Among its many highlights, this world-famous attraction provides access into an assortment of animal habitats, including Asia Trail, African Savanna and the always popular Kids' Farm.

Giant Pandas

One of the Zoo's top attractions, the Giant Panda exhibit features the world famous duo of Tian Tianand Mei Xiang, who arrived thanks to an agreement between the Zoo and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. As two of only around 1,600 surviving giant pandas in the mountain forests of central China, these furry celebrities are part of a breeding program aimed at preserving this beautiful animal species.

A great venue for special events, The National Zoo plays host to a variety of professional affairs sponsored by some of the area's top corporations and associations. Schedule a dinner, picnic, reception or some other activity at one of the most popular attractions in Washington DC.


  • What exhibits are at the zoo?

    In addition to a wide array of attractions, the National Zoo features six key exhibits, including African Savanna, Amazonia, American Trail, Asia Trail, Kids' Farm and Think Tank, which offers interactive demonstrations with orangutans to answer the question "What is thinking?"
  • Are stroller options available?

    Strollers and electronic vehicles are available for rent, with single strollers available for between $6 and $9 and double strollers available for between $9 and $12. Visit one of the park's information kiosks for rental locations.
